Additional Sunshine Superman - The Journey Of Donovan Information

It would be fairly easy to contend that Donovan is one of the greatest figures in rock history. You could cite his thirteen British hit singles. You could cite his innovative, ingenious and meticulously textured blending of disparate genres such as jazz and folk and rock, not to mention medieval, Indian and Caribbean music. You could cite the songs of his, which have been covered by heavy hitters such as Joan Baez, Kate Bush, Hole, the Allman Brothers Band, Nigel Kennedy, Eric Burdon, Jefferson Airplane, Al Kooper and Stephen Stills. Likewise, you could cite the influence he has had on the likes of the Beatles and Marc Bolan. But it would be equally easy to contend that, notwithstanding such mighty achievements, Donovan remains one of rock music s most underrated and misunderstood figures.

Sunshine Superman The Journey Of Donovan is the ultimate life story of the 60´s folk-pop phenomenon. The deluxe double-DVD set contains classic 60´s film and TV appearances, rare archive footage and never-before-seen material as well as 5 previously unreleased songs and all of the hits. With appearances by Bob Dylan, The Beatles, Pete Seeger, Arlo Guthrie, Mickie Most, Rick Rubin, Jimmy Page, Jeff Beck, Franco Zeffirelli, David Lynch (and many more) and a 40 page booklet chock full of informative liner notation and exclusive photo material, Sunshine Superman is the ultimate story of Donovan s remarkable and unique four decade career.

What Customers Say About Sunshine Superman - The Journey Of Donovan:

This film has Donovan telling it all, from his early childhood, to his hit singles to traveling with the Beatles to India to reuniting with his muse Linda. It also shows the work Donovan did for film (Brother Sun Sister Moon, The Pied Piper and a Gap commercial with "Mellow Yellow") The bonus disc has several live performances (some which can be seen on the Kodak Theatre concert)and a peek inside Donovan's basement (going through his albums on vinyl) It isn't that bad, it covers much more than his somewhat abridged autobiography The Autobiography of Donovan: The Hurdy Gurdy Man Forget those crappy reviews that say it's "Donovan interviewing Donovan", this was all done by the director who interviewed him over the past five years. It would be interesting to hear some more (about the cover versions of his songs maybe) but three hours is enough.

I really enjoyed this DVD.Donovan is a very good story teller and his philosophy on life and music are also very interesting to see and hear about. The documentary is very well produced and even at 3 hours I found myself enjoying the whole thing.I read some people think Donovan was being up himself, however I think he tells his story honestly and is open about himself and his music. What more can you ask for.The music videos are great and so are the songs.I am very glad I brought this DVD set.

I DON'T UNDERSTAND THE NEGATIVITY. A MICKIE MOST PRODUCTION. YES I THINK DON IS A MASTER. I LOVE DONOVAN AND HIS MUSIC IS OF ANOTHER SPHERE. THEN THE LOCAL COLLEGE STARTED THERE FM STATION AND YOU COULD CALL THE FM STATION AND THEY WOULD PLAY A WHOLE ALBUM SIDE. I THINK HE DOES AN EXCELLENT JOB ON NARRATION. HE HAD SO MANY FANTASTIC 45'S IN THE 60'S.

GOD BLESS YA DON YOU ARE A SUPERSTAR.PS. THIS VIDEO IS GREAT. NUFF SAID. VERY PRECISE AND VERY ENLIGHTENING. I FEEL REALLY LUCKY TO HAVE GROWN UP WITH HIS MUSIC. ROCK RADIO RULED IN THE 60'S THE AM WAS A BLAST. TRULY AMAZING.

However, I think it could present Donovan in a more true and flattering light post-60s and it just barely hints at the tremendous power of his vision and music during the time of Flower Power, of which he was definitely King and quite possibly its creator. It would be fascinating, but possibly too intrusive, for Donovan to talk about his own confusions and what happened to him at a certain stage due to all the adulation and hardcore druggie types he encountered, which must have injured his gentle soul, and then how he pulled himself together and out of all the madness, which probably took years, and how he now views it all. Beautifully produced and presented, it considers a time that many of the generation it talks about are still confused about. This is a real eye-opener for anyone who has watched Donovan's career from the beginning. And I haven't seen any other film attempt what this one has. An interesting study would be to analyse how his innocence was ridden over roughshod by the bigtime money-men wielding the tool of a new kind of mass-influencing technology (TV, which was new to the US in the 50s and to the UK in the 60s, and film) that youngsters of Donovan's generation were for the first time being influenced by on a mass, gigantic scale.

A new film should contain more about his music and views regarding the interests that inspired him.and more about his own inspirations and loves, more about his relationships with the other famous people who became his friends, and his perceptions and memories of the social movement they were all a part of with the rest of his generation, plus possibly comments about the time from the people who loved his music.

His most famous pop songs and not-so-great later concert performances are given too much time in the film, while many of his lyrical, fantastic creations are ignored entirely.

However, there's time for another film to top this one.

It's a really great film with an eye on the historical, presenting a background for what happened to young people with music in the 60s, and Donovan in particular.

This movie makes a stab at all of that, but didn't quite ascend to the heights it could have.

The middle part of his career is barely mentioned.I would like to see this movie remade, with much more of Glasgow and Donovan's early beginnings and the influences of his father (fascinating character).

and mother, not to mention those of his past and present families, upon him.

It's a good documentary anyway, well worth seeing.

More should be done of this nature.

I REALLY wanted to see this. Some kind of inport or something. Such a sad day when I happily put my new Donovan DVD into my player and found out that it was the wrong kind of DVD for my machine. I am so sad.I don't know what to do. I don't know. How will I know when I'm buying a DVD that is not compatible with my player. But I want to see this DVD. Any suggestions.
